United Airlines has introduced the Embraer 175 aircraft to the United Express fleet, with service on the modern and spacious regional jet operating between Chicago and top business markets Washington and Boston.

United Express carrier SkyWest Airlines began Boston service today. Service between Chicago and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport began Saturday. The E175 flights complement existing United service in those markets.

The 76-seat E175 regional jet is the newest addition to the United Express fleet, enabling the airline to offer an improved regional jet experience. With 12 seats in United First, 16 seats in United Economy Plus and 48 seats in United Economy, the E175 offers more personal space for customers, with wider seats and aisles than other regional aircraft. Each United First seat features a power outlet. The aircraft’s large overhead bins can accommodate standard-sized carry-on bags, resulting in more convenience for customers.

“We are thrilled to welcome the E175 to United Express and celebrate the launch of service from our hometown of Chicago,” said Sandra Pineau-Boddison, United’s senior vice president of United Express. “This fantastic new aircraft will enable us to better serve our customers, particularly in high-frequency business markets.”

United will offer E175 in several additional markets beginning in June, complementing existing United services:

  • Chicago-Minneapolis /St. Paul, beginning June 5
  • Chicago-Atlanta, beginning June 15
  • Houston-Atlanta, beginning June 15
  • Houston-New Orleans, beginning June 15
  • Chicago-New York LaGuardia, beginning June 23
  • San Francisco-St. Louis, beginning Sept. 20
  • San Francisco-Austin, beginning Oct. 26
  • San Francisco-Dallas/Fort Worth, beginning Oct. 26
  • San Francisco-Minneapolis/ St. Paul, beginning Oct. 26

SkyWest Airlines will operate the services to and from Chicago O’Hare International Airport and to and from San Francisco International Airport. Mesa Airlines will operate the flights to and from Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

United expects to introduce 70 E175 aircraft into the United Express fleet by the end of 2015. As United inducts new aircraft into the fleet, the airline will remove smaller, less efficient regional aircraft from the fleet. The E175s consume less fuel per seat and have fewer CO2 emissions per seat than the aircraft they replace.

East Meadow, NY, March 24, 2014 – On March 30, Lufthansa will resume A380 service from Frankfurt to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The flights — LH400/LH401— will operate during the summer schedule, which lasts until October 2014. This will be the third season in which Lufthansa will fly the A380 to New York’s JFK, which also happens to be the first North American station that serviced the aircraft type when it first touched down on February 28, 2011. Flights are available for booking on www.lh.com.

“New York is one of the most important markets for Lufthansa, so it only made sense to return the A380 to JFK in order to accommodate the summer’s increased transient travel demands,” said Juergen Siebenrock, Vice President, The Americas. “We’re excited to once again offer New Yorkers the option to experience this amazing aircraft, combined with Lufthansa’s award-wining service, thus taking the flying experience in all three classes to a whole new level,” Siebenrock continued.

Most fuel-efficient aircraft

The Airbus A380 is the world’s most fuel-efficient aircraft, burning about 12 percent less fuel than other wide-body jets, and is approximately 30 percent quieter than the current generation of wide-body aircraft. The airline has ordered a total of 14 A380 aircraft, all scheduled for delivery by 2015. This will make Lufthansa the largest A380 operator in Europe.

Lufthansa’s A380 is configured with 526 seats, which results in a 25 percent capacity increase on this route, and features the airline’s new First Class product. Located on the upper deck, this space is the quietest cabin in commercial aviation and boasts an air humidification system – the first of its kind to be installed on a commercial aircraft – that improves air humidity to help fight off jet lag. Two large, luxurious bathrooms with separate changing and lavatory areas offer enhanced personal space and storage. The cabin’s eight generously proportioned, ergonomic seats measure 6’9” feet in length and 2’7” feet in width and provide the ultimate in comfort and innovation for an exceptional travel experience.

Also located on the upper deck is the world’s largest Business Class cabin with 98 seats, featuring improved functionality, including more storage and a power supply that works with all worldwide connections. The main deck is home to an impressively spacious Economy Class cabin. Each of the 420 seats features an in-seat video screen, an optimized ergonomic design and a slimmer seat back that adds two inches of personal space per passenger.

Spreading its wings: Specially configured Airbus A321s to debut on transcontinental routes for American Airlines

American Airlines soon will take advantage of the flexibility that Airbus’ single-aisle A320 Family offers to its operators, becoming the first airline to utilize an A321 aircraft outfitted with a three-class interior and full lie-flat seats in business and first class.

These Sharklet-equipped A321ceo (current engine option) jetliners – of which Airbus is scheduled to provide the first version to American Airlines later this year – are specially tailored for the carrier’s transcontinental flights across the United States.

In addition to the upgraded seat offerings in first and business class, passengers throughout the cabin will experience full Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as inflight entertainment (IFE), 110v universal AC power outlets and USB jacks at every seat. For the first time on an A321, the interior also contains four full-service galleys.

American Airlines plans to begin operations in early 2014 with this A321 configuration, starting with the 2,500-mile route between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport, and later adding additional service linking JFK to San Francisco International Airport (nearly 2,600 miles).

In July, American Airlines took delivery of its first A320 Family aircraft – Airbus’ initial A319 featuring Sharklets – as part of the carrier’s fleet renewal plan that includes 260 jetliners from this single-aisle product line comprised of both NEO (new engine option) and CEO variants.
