Five Star carrier Qatar Airways held a large press briefing along with Airbus at the Airbus Factory in Hamburg, Germany, on Tuesday as the airline took delivery of its highly anticipated first A380.

With 10 Airbus A380-800s on order, Qatar Airways is preparing to take delivery of four of them before the end of this year.

Speaking at the press conference Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said: “This has been a moment more than a decade in the making and we are so delighted to unveil a new passenger experience for our travellers.

“The A380 that we are introducing is not just any A380; we have completely designed every element, giving it a signature touch that has never been seen before on board.

“Additionally, the newly opened Hamad International Airport, the airline’s hub in Doha, has been specifically created with the A380 in mind, with five contact gates dedicated only for this aircraft, making the experience smooth and effortless for passengers.

The press event in Hamburg featured a lively round of questions for Mr. Al Baker as the highly anticipated super-jumbo makes its debut, joining the Qatar Airways fleet.

The airline will first introduce A380 services on one of its frequencies on the Doha – London route from October, followed by Paris Charles De Gaulle shortly thereafter.

The 517-seat aircraft is spread across twin decks in a tri-class configuration of 8 seats in First Class; 48 seats in Business Class and 461 in Economy Class.

The First Class seats feature a 90-inch pitch with a fully flat bed.

Business Class seats feature a pitch of 52 inches which also recline to fully flat beds.

Economy Class passengers benefit from the most spacious A380 arrangement flying in the skies, with a pitch of 32 inches spread in a 10-seats-across layout.

The premium cabin is fitted with multiple bespoke elements such as luxe finishings and tailor-made fabrics designed exclusively for the airline.

In-flight entertainment on board is state-of-the-art using the Thales mainframe Top Series Avant system with features such as an Android open platform with intuitive swipe functions and customised HD monitor of up to 26 inches in First Class.

The airline currently operates a mixed fleet of the Airbus family of aircraft, a large contingent being the single-aisle A320s and also a mixed range of A330s and A340s.

In the last quarter of 2014, it is expected that the airline will start receiving its first A350 XWB aircraft as the world’s launch customer.

Qatar’s new international transit hub increases passenger footfall by more than 11% in the month of July

Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar’s new world-class gateway to the world, today announced an increase in its monthly passenger statistics compared to those at the old Doha International Airport (DIA). HIA saw an 11.36% passenger increase through its doors in July 2014 compared to July 2013. A total of 2,160,843 travellers departed, transferred and arrived into Qatar during July 2014, showcasing the new airport’s global standing as an international transit hub.

Cargo numbers have also increased at HIA with an additional 12.76% traffic in July. All cargo operations are now operating out of the new airport where the facility is fully automated, creating a seamless experience for both the cargo agents and customers.

Badr Al Meer, Chief Operating Officer at HIA said: “We are happy to see that so many more passengers are choosing to fly to Qatar and through our new, world-class facility. Over the coming months and years we will continue to grow and ensure every passenger has the best possible experience at our airport, whether they be departing, arriving or in transit.”

Qatar Airways sets precedent introducing first Boeing 787 Dreamliner to Austria

Qatar Airways, the award-winning five-star airline, has introduced its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to the Vienna route, starting September 1, 2014.

The increase in demand in the region and the airline’s steadfast commitment to the Austrian market has resulted in the introduction of the state-of-the-art Dreamliner onto the Vienna-Doha route bringing an additional capacity of 92% per week compared to the current A320.

Qatar Airways is the first airline to commence with a scheduled 787 Dreamliner service to Vienna. “After 10 years of operating to Vienna, we are delighted to introduce our flagship aircraft, the 787 Dreamliner, which will not only offer an increase in capacity to the route but will also redefine the in-flight experience of our passengers travelling to Doha and beyond,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker.

“Passengers from Austria can now fly to more than 140 destinations worldwide with Qatar Airways via the world-class Hamad International Airport in Doha.”

Qatar Airways has 254 custom-made seats across its 787 Business and Economy Class cabins with specially designed interiors. Business Class is configured in a 1–2–1 set-up with 22 seats, while Economy has a 232 seating capacity in a 3–3–3 layout. All seats in Business Class are fully reclinable.

The airline’s 787s are the world’s first fully connected Dreamliners with wireless facilities for passengers to remain in touch with friends and colleagues on the ground through the internet and SMS mobile texting across both Business and Economy cabins. The 787 Dreamliners complement the ultra-luxurious customer service and experience that Qatar Airways delivers to its passengers.

The recently opened Al Mourjan Business Lounge for Qatar Airways’ Premium passengers at Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar’s new world-class gateway to the world, has unveiled unrivalled service and facilities in a sunlit 10,000 sq metre lounge.

The experience in the Al Mourjan Business Lounge mirrors that of a resort, starting from the moment of arrival at the reception area where customers are greeted by the house host or hostess and checked in. The central area offers a vast range of seating options including a raised garden area with teak wood and garden furniture, flanked by a long water feature and refreshing water mist. The central area in contrast offers individual and group multi-purpose executive seating that includes a multitude of facilities such as a privacy screen, reading light, luggage space, power source, data plug points and Personal Flight Information Displays as well as a media room with a large screen TV and sofas with built-in speakers. The opening of Al Mourjan lounge is the latest in a vastly enhanced travel experience that passengers can expect when transiting through Qatar’s new Hamad International Airport. Qatar Airways launches daily non-stop service to Dallas

Qatar Airways yesterday commenced daily, non-stop services between the newly unveiled Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The new route increases Qatar Airways’ extensive global network to seven gateways within the United States and 144 destinations worldwide.

Dallas/Fort Worth becomes Qatar Airways’ second destination in Texas, representing the airline’s enduring commitment to the region. Along with Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth will serve as a crucial junction between Qatar Airways’ global network, via Doha, and other key destinations across the Southwestern USA, including Austin, San Antonio and Oklahoma City, through its oneworld alliance partners.

“We are delighted to welcome Dallas/Fort Worth into our expanding global network,” said Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer, His Excellency, Mr. Akbar Al Baker. “We are particularly pleased to begin serving the home city of our oneworld alliance partner American Airlines. “Our partnership with Qatar Airways and today’s inaugural flight from Doha is exciting for the Airport and the millions of passengers we serve. Dallas/Fort Worth customers now have nonstop access to a new destination in the Gulf Region,” said Sean Donohue, DFW Airport’s Chief Executive Officer. “DFW is an integral economic driver to the region and this new nonstop service will add approximately $200 million annually to our economy.”

The new route flies daily between Dallas/Fort Worth and Doha, departing from Doha at 8:10am and arriving into Dallas/Fort Worth at 3:35pm the same day. Overnight service to Doha departs Dallas/Fort Worth at 8:00pm and lands in Doha at 6:20pm the following day. The route is operated with a Boeing 777-200LR configured with 217 Economy Class seats and 42 Business Class seats.

Outbound passengers to Doha will enjoy fast, convenient connections to key destinations throughout the world, including Delhi, Beijing, Tokyo, Bangkok and Perth, via the world’s newest international hub, Hamad International Airport.

Officially commencing full operations on 1 May, Hamad International Airport offers state-of-the-art facilities and is capable of handling over 360,000 flights and 30 million passengers annually, with a capacity of 50 million passengers after full completion.

As one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, Dallas/Fort Worth represents Qatar Airways’ tenth new destination of 2014. The airline operates one of the youngest fleets in the sky and will be adding the highly anticipated Airbus A380 and A350 in the near future.

Qatar Airways launches “My Q-Tag”


Qatar Airways has developed an innovative new online system for passengers who wish to print their own baggage tags before arrival at the airport.

Designed to take advantage of a seamless five-star experience from the moment of checking in online, My Q-Tag enables customers to arrive at the airport and proceed directly to the web check-in bag drop counter, where a Customer Service representative will process their already labelled baggage.

Currently available to 103 destinations for those passengers exiting Doha, the innovative process adds a further layer of customer service to the online check-in process by enabling customers to proceed quickly into the departures area where they can avail of more time to relax before boarding their flights.

The HIA Passenger Terminal Complex houses a total of 138 check-in counters across five islands, including 108 counters for Qatar Airways Economy passengers and all other airlines, 16 counters dedicated to Qatar Airways Business Class travellers and 14 luxury, bespoke, seated check-in counters for Qatar Airways First Class passengers. In addition, the new airport is also equipped with 34 self-check-in kiosks to further streamline the process and enable customers to print their own boarding passes.

Hamad International Airport offers 40,000 square metres of combined retail, food and beverage facilities, establishing the airport as a premier shopping and dining destination. With more than 70 retail outlets offering an unprecedented selection of designer labels, high street fashion, electronics, gourmet foods and much more, Qatar Duty Free at HIA caters to passengers, every taste. In addition, more than 30 cafes and restaurants offers a sumptuous selection of global and local cuisine.

The new airport is located on the coast of the peninsula and just 16km from the centre of Doha. Thanks to a sophisticated newly-built road infrastructure surrounding HIA, arrival time to the airport is around 25 minutes, depending on the traffic. Qatar Airways passengers can travel to HIA via car, bus, taxi or limo services.

Qatar Airways, the country’s national airline has seen rapid growth in just 17 years of operation, to the point where today it is flying a modern fleet of 134 aircraft to 141 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America.

Over the next few months, the network will grow further with new routes to Miami, USA (June 10, 2014), Tokyo Haneda, Japan (June 18, 2014), Dallas/Fort Worth, USA (July 1, 2014) and Djibouti (July 27, 2014).
