Alaska Airlines has been named the No. 1 on-time major North American carrier for the fifth year in a row.
FlightStats Inc., which compiles on-time performance data on millions of flights each year, bestowed the honor on Alaska Airlines today. No other major North American airline has received the prestigious award more times since the Portland-based company launched its on-time awards program in 2009.
“Our employees work tirelessly to operate a safe and on-time airline because they know that behind these numbers are people getting where they need to be,” said Alaska Chief Operating Officer Ben Minicucci. “On-time performance means more time with family, more productive business trips and an overall travel experience that ensures our customers keep coming back.”
FlightStats publishes its On-Time Performance Services Awards annually and evaluates flight data from the top 10 North American airlines. These major carriers operated more than 9 million flights throughout North America in 2014. To qualify as on-time, each flight must be completed within 15 minutes of its scheduled arrival.
“We at FlightStats congratulate Alaska Airlines for their achievement of delivering outstanding on-time performance for their customers,” said Jeff Kennedy, executive chairman and co-founder of FlightStats, Inc. “As a global leader in data services and solutions, FlightStats takes pride in maintaining the integrity of all airlines’ performance reporting and recognize what an accomplishment it is to maintain a level of excellence as Alaska Airlines has demonstrated in 2014.”
